Should We Shoot in the Rain? It depends…..

The day has arrived! You’ve finally gotten your client to prepare their listing and… it’s raining. Not only is it raining, but it’s going to rain for days. 😬

Let’s talk about curb appeal. Or the lack of it. Rain flattens the landscape, literally and figuratively. The vibrant green lawn turns into a washed-out mess. That freshly painted porch? It looks like it could use a towel. Curb appeal is critical, and rain kills it faster than a lawnmower in a daisy patch. It’s hard to imagine hosting a barbecue in a yard that looks like it belongs in a dystopian future.

Can we replace the sky? Yes. Can we brighten things up? Absolutely. But ask yourself this: Is it absolutely crucial to list this home right now? What is the price point of the listing? The higher the price, the longer it tends to sit. Do we really want potential buyers looking at wet, dreary photos for a month or more?

We live in a time of instant gratification. If something doesn’t immediately appeal to someone, you’ve lost your edge. Maybe it’s best to tell the client that we want the media to be the best it can possibly be. Dealing with sub-par weather limits us. Delays, equipment damage, and last-minute schedule changes are also factors. As a media company often working on tight deadlines, we can’t afford these issues—they create tension in business relationships.

The moral of the story: We care about you and your client. We value the professionalism of our work, and we don’t like to say, “Ok, I guess that’s good enough.” If the listing sits on the market because the media isn’t appealing, it’s not good for you as an agent, and it’s certainly not good for us as a media company. Unless the listing absolutely has to hit the market now, let’s brainstorm and come up with another approach together. Addressing the problem before we get on site saves everyone time and money.

Imagine yourself relaxing, sipping your morning coffee. You've effectively communicated with your RE media provider and come up with a plan of action to shoot your listing on a prettier day. All is well, I repeat....all is well.
